Athasian Races

The main PC races of Dark Sun are as follows, there is a break detail on the races under the race heading:-

Aarakocra: Aarakocra are vulture-like bird-people of the rocky badlands and mountains across Athas.

Belgoi: Belgoi are a nomadic race of blue-skinned, web-toed, clawed humanoid. The Belgoi live in large tribes that move from place to place, stripping areas of resources and raiding caravans. Belgoi are extremely manipulative and can dominate people using bells.

Dwarf: The Athasian Dwarf is very similar to the Dwarf of other worlds. The Athasian Dwarf is short and stocky. Athasian Dwarves have no hair on their bodies, they find hair repulsive. The Athasian Dwarf have a heavy bone ridge running down their forehead. Dwarves must choose a focus, which is a particular task. The Focus can never be a short-term goal (They cannot choose, for example, 'I'm going to kill this guy that just attacked me' but could choose 'I will hunt down and kill the templar who had my family killed'). Focuses usually give a Dwarf bonuses to achieving the task until it is done. Dwarves rarely take a Focus lightly, however, if they die before achieving their Focus, they will become a Dwarven Banshee.

Elf: The average Athasian Elf is thin and tall, most being taller than the average human. The Athasian Elves have narrow features and slim eyes. Elves are a tribal people with a general selfishness to all except their own tribe. They are likewise distrustful of outsiders and will often test strangers' loyalties. The Athasian Elf has a general a hatred toward Thri-Kreen, as the Kreen have a taste for Elven flesh.

Half-Elf: The Athasian half-elf is much different than that of other worlds. Instead of getting along with all, they are shunned by both halves of their linneage. Elves see them as outsiders, and humans see them as devious and evil.

Human: Humans of Athas come in a huge variety. Some have pale skin, whereas others may have a mediteranean tan, whilst others might have a dark skin tone. Hair colors are hugely varied aswell, including red, black, blond, browns etc. All humans have a small mutation.

Mul: The Mul is about the height of a tall human but with a very heavy bone structure, completely hairless and have a heavy bone ridge running down their forehead. The Mul is a cross-breed of human and dwarf. Mul are very difficult to breed and most mothers die during childbirth. The female will always be a human in the case of breeding Mul. Mul are sterile. Almost all Mul are born as slaves that fight as gladiators in arenas. Mul often share the determination of their dwarven parents along with their increased strength and stamina but are often just as stubborn.

Tari: The once-great Tari are a race of rat-like humanoids. Tari are bipedal, and can be anywhere from three to five feet tall. Tari usually live in small swarms of thieving guilds, lead by shaman. These "clans" are usually found underground in the ruins of cities or sewer systems. The Tari are trained in the ways of stealth and theivery, causing them to be hunted as vermin in the upper part of the world.

Thri-Kreen: Also called Mantis Warriors, Thri-Kreen are tall, bipedal praying mantises with four arms, humanoid hands and thick carapaces. Thri-Kreen live in hunting packs that use chatkcha and gythka to hunt. They live in an alpha society and will commonly challenge others for positions in a pack. The Thri-Kreen never need sleep and find it confusing when other races request it. They also need less water and food than other races. Kreen don't generally like to eat sentient races but will make an exception if their is an elf available as they have accquired a taste for elf.

Yuan-ti: The Yuan-ti are a group of serpentine humanoids created by Sapyn, the Primal Drake of Time. They train in The Temple of the Silent Ones, located on a remote peak north of Tyr. The Yuan-ti occasionally leave the temple in search of knowlege for the temple. The Yuan-ti are trained in the ways of a monk, fighting with no armor or weapons.
