Hemp

Hemp is a plant cultivated around the Draj mudflats for its fibres. It is used for making clothes, shoes, rope and even paper.

Clothing made from hemp fibres is relatively course, strong and durable.

Although not as strong as giant hair, hemp is used to make rope. Hemp rope is notorious for breaking due to rot, as the interior can hold moisture while the exterior seems completely dry.

[edit] Harvesting

Plots are usually harvested by hand. The plants are cut at 2 to 3 cm (1 inch) above the soil and left on the ground to dry.

The cut hemp is laid in swathes to dry for up to four days. This is followed by a process called dew retting, where the hemp remains on the ground and is affected by the moisture of dew, moulds and bacteria.
